I can hardly believe it’s the first of October – the heart of autumn. 🧡
My favorite time to decorate is autumn. More than any other season, this is the one that makes me feel at one with my home. Cozy and invigorated, all at once.
I’ve always thought that heartfelt decoration is a meditation. It sounds lofty, but in fact, it’s simple and very wonderfully ordinary. Everyday wonder. When I decorate corners of our home, I take my time, and then I sit and admire the charming vignettes whenever I find a quiet moment. I pour a cup of tea, leaf through a pretty magazine, write in my journal, rest, crochet, read, daydream… All of these activities are nurtured in a thoughtfully decorated space. 🍂
Aren’t their faces and gestures so charming? Bethany Lowe is one of my favorite designers. (Johanna Parker, as well.)
Autumn is a wonderful time to reconnect with home. To make things softer, and cozier. It helps me to slow down after the constant work and activities of summertime. It reminds me that I deserve to hold space for my own peace and relaxation. And in that pause, I can admire all the loveliness of the season. 🌻
